La Strada

Groupon provides an excellent opportunity to try restaurant’s that you have not tried before.  I stumbled upon a Groupon for La Strada a couple of months ago and have been eager to try it out! Another restaurant to cross off my list!

La Strada is located in the Gateway district of downtown Cleveland on East 4th st- a street filled with many restaurants and night life.   La Strada is composed of Mediterranean inspired dishes inspired by Italy, Turkey, Morocco, Spain, and Greece.

The restaurant had many large tables.  There were many large parties dining at the restaurant with only a few couples.  Jordan and I were seated upstairs where most of the tables for 2 are located.  The food and atmosphere were great.  The sword fish that I ordered for my main entree was some of the best sword fish I have ever tried!  My only complaint is that there was a major temperature difference between the first and second level.   Jordan and I were uncomfortably warm for the first 10 minutes after being seated, but once we were served our beverage we cooled off a bit.

Check out what I ate below!

Buffalo Mozzarella, sliced tomatoes, olive oil, cracked papper, and crostini

Main Course

Fish of the Day- Sword Fish with roasted red pepper puree and roasted vegetables.

Complimentary Fruit

Tremont Tap House- Brunch

Jordan and I went to Tremont Tap House a couple months ago and had a fabulous dinner on the patio. Click HERE to read about it!

While we were at Tremont Tap House the first time we noticed a sign advertising Sunday Brunch!  We definitely made a plan to return and finally did a couple weeks ago!

It was already in the 90’s by the time we arrived around 11:30, so we decided to sit inside to keep cool.

The menu has a wide variety of choices; breakfat pizza, breakfast burrito, eggs benedict, greek yogurts and homemade granola, a variety of omeletes, waffles, and pancakes, etc…

I chose the House Granola and Blueberry pancakes (3 large pancakes).  It comes with a cup of fresh fruit on the side. (and of course washed it down with a mimosa!)

Granola and Fresh Blueberry Pancakes

I usually don’t order pancakes because I feel like I am always disappointed.  These pancakes were amazing and by far the best pancakes I have ever tried!!  The fresh blueberries were perfect and the granola added a little extra sweetness and a slight crunch to the pancake batter.

I might have to try a granola pancake recipe on my own sometime!

XO Prime Steaks

So the time has come.  I finally received my first pay check and It was my turn to finally treat Jordan to a nice juicy and delicious steak.  We had planned this day a while ago, restaurant chosen and all.  So finally on Saturday we made our way over to XO Prime Steaks for a fantastic dinner.  Neither of us had been so we were both equally excited, Jordan more so, since he was getting his steak paid for! haha.

We arrived a little before our reservation so we grabbed a drink at the bar.  I had a glass of Ironstone, Cabernet Sauvignon while Jordan had an Elliot Ness.

When we were finally seated, Jordan had informed me that we were sitting by Cleveland Cavalier’s player Manny Harris and his friends and family! How cool is that??

We started out with an appetizer- Fried Calamari with cherry peppers, tossed in lemon garlic.  (sorry I did not get a picture of it!)  The breading of the calamari was light, crispy, and delicious.  Not greasy at all!

For Jordan’s main entree, he ordered the 16 oz Delmonico steak topped with Lobster Oscar.  I ordered an 8 oz center cut filet topped with roasted garlic and herbed butter, which the waiter had recommended.  I at first asked for the red wine reduction and the waiter informed me that it was not one of his favorites and it is the only thing he does not recommend to his customers.  I took his word for it and went with his suggestion of topping for the filet, the roasted garlic and herbed butter.

The menu is a la carte, so Jordan and I ordered garlic mashed potatoes and green beans to share.   This is the best picture I could get!!

We ended the meal with the Warmed Molten Chocolate Cake, Amerena Cherries, and Kirsch Whipped Cream.

This is the best steak I have ever had, and Jordan agrees as well.  My steak was cooked perfectly (Medium).  The roasted garlic and herbed butter added a wonderful flavor to the steak.  It was not too strong.  As you can see by the photo, there is a large slice of butter placed on top of the steak to allow it to melt, I took off a majority of the butter so that the flavor did not take over the flavor of the steak. The green beans were crisp, and the potatoes were creamy and full of flavor as well.  And let’s not forget the chocolate cake- SO GOOD.  The molten chocolate poured out of the center as we cut into the cake for our first bite.  A perfect ending to a wonderful meal with the man that I love.

So, if you are looking for a place to celebrate a birthday, graduation, engagement, or just feel like having an extra nice night out, you have got to try XO Prime Steaks!!

Sweet Moses Soda Fountain and Treat Shop

Yes, I am a dietitian, and yes, I LOVE dessert.  What would life be without a little something sweet everyday??

After a celebratory dinner for my new job with my parent’s on Friday, they took me over to Sweet Moses Soda Fountain and Treat Shop.  This 1920s –style soda fountain shop is named after Moses Cleveland, Cleveland’s founding father.  It is located on the Detroit Shoreway, in the heart of the Gordon Square Arts District.

The menu consists of house-made ice cream, milkshakes, sodas, malts, phosphates.  It also has chocolate specialty such as chocolate cups, chocolate bark, caramel corn drizzled with chocolate, and fudge.

I was having a tough decision on figuring out what I wanted.  Everything sounded and looked amazing.  I ended up ordering the Shoreway Sundae: Coffee Ice cream, topped with hot fudge, toffee bits, almonds, whipped cream, and a cherry on top!

Shoreway Sundae

So like I said above… What would life be without a little something sweet everyday?? Or in this case, a major sweet indulgence every once in a great while?!!?  With warm weather right around the corner, this is the perfect spot for a warm Cleveland summer night.  And try and get a seat at the counter so that you can watch all the happenings at Sweet Moses!

Fresh Start Diner and Luxe Kitchen and Lounge

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  Although the weather here in Cleveland was cloudy and a bit chilly than what it has been, I still had a great weekend!  I tried two new restaurants and would like to share my thoughts with you!  I do have one confession, though… no pictures 😦

The first restaurant I would like to share with you is Fresh Start Diner in Chagrin Falls, Ohio.  My friend Jamie was in town from Dallas for a short weekend home.  She likes to blame me for turning her into a “foodie.”  But, I say it’s a good thing 🙂 especially when we are able to catch-up with one another’s life over a GREAT meal!  I’m sure she agrees!! Jamie already had a busy schedule planned for her weekend home, so we decided to grab breakfast Saturday morning.  We decided on Fresh Start Diner, which both of us had never been.

The first impression was “just another home town diner” (not that it’s a bad thing!).   There are a few other places like this around Solon such as Jim’s Open Kitchen and Chicago Deli.  Jamie and I both ordered Evy’s Veggie Omelet with challah toast.  An interesting feature in the diner is that you are able to watch them make the fresh orange juice up at the counter!  When our meals arrived my first that was that the omelet was perfect size and not that “over-whelmingly-larger-than-my-face” size, as I find a lot of restaurants make their omelets out to be.  It was filled with provolone cheese, red peppers, mushrooms, onions, spinach, and tomatoes.   The challah toast was sliced a little too thin for my liking, but still light and flakey.  If you do not like a lot of butter on your toast, I recommend you ask to butter your own.  They butter the toast, and put a lot on!!  The meal also came with homemade home fries.   Check-out the rest of the menu HERE.  Breakfast is served daily!

The second restaurant I would like to share with you is Luxe Kitchen and Lounge.  I bought a Groupon for the restaurant back in January and had until July to use it.  Although I have heard their is an amazing patio, I wanted to try it sooner than later!  Jordan and I arrived a little after 7 and lucky enough to be able to take the last table for 2 before the wait for tables began.  We were seated up in the bar area.  The atmosphere is funky and hip.  There are large chandeliers hanging from the high warehouse type ceiling.  There is what looks to be faux cow fur on the bar of the high bar chairs.  There is brick exposed walls giving off an over-all “very cool” scene.

The waiter came over with bread and olive oil/balsamic to start.  The balsamic was perfectly sweet and the oil had a nice fruity aroma.  To start off Jordan and I ordered the mussels in a wine wine/garlic sauce with crushed tomatoes and crusty bread.  We were both extremely pleased with our choice and both decided it was probably the best mussel appetizer we had ever ate!  The wine wine sauce complimented the mussels perfectly and was a great dipping sauce for the crusty bread!  The tomatoes were sweet and juicy, and could have just been eaten on their own!

For an entree we both ordered something off of the chefs specials of the night.  Jordan ordered a filet that came with asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes.  I ordered the Salmon with a pineapple, guacamole, and cilantro salsa, with a side of quinoa risotto.  The salmon was by far one of the best salmons I have had in a long while.  It was cooked perfectly with a slight pink in the middle.  The avocado pineapple salsa added a nice fresh taste.  The quinoa was not as creamy as what your typical risotto would be, but it added a nice texture and nutty flavor to the dish.  After the great experience, we both agreed we will definitely be coming back when the weather is warmer so we can hopefully try out the patio!

Sunday we stayed in and cooked brunch 🙂  Veggie omelets and bacon. YUM!

Grumpy’s Cafe- Sunday Brunch

I hope everyone had a wonderful St. Patty’s Day!! I spent most of the day at the Hyatt Regency Cleveland at The Arcade with family and friends.  Filled up on corned beef and irish soda bread!! Cleveland hit a record of about 500,000 people downtown for the parade and days festivities!  Look at all the people in The Arcade watching the fire men play the bag pipes!

The Arcade

Jordan had a long day of work ahead of him on Sunday …yes, a Sunday 😦 … So we decided to grab some brunch at Grumpy’s Cafe in Tremont!  We both had never been but have heard only good things!

We arrived around 10:30, thinking we would beat the crowd or that people would still be sleeping from the festivities the day before.  The place was packed!!  We were not expecting that many people to be there, and neither did the servers!  We were a little skeptical of our decision to come when we first walked in.  No one greeted us for about 5 minutes, even though many servers had walked past us.  We realized they were extremely busy and decided to be patient.  Finally one of the waitresses came and took down our name and said it would be about a 15 minute wait.  We didn’t mind.  It was another beautiful and sunny day in Cleveland, so we went to sit out on a bench outside the restaurant.  The wait ended up only being 5 minutes, so not too bad!

Grumpy’s does not serve alcohol but it is BYOB.  Coffee was a drink of choice for the morning.  Their mugs were like what you would find in your cabinets at home that you have collected over the past several years as souvenirs or gifts.  The mugs went perfectly with the decor and laid back atmosphere (although it was extremely busy!) of the restaurant.

Everything on the menu sounded delicious! Jordan did not order his usual steak and eggs and instead ordered the steak and mushroom omelette, served with Grumpy’s cajun home fries and toast. (so I guess it was still steak and eggs! haha) I ordered the “West 14th Special”, home-made corned beef hash with 2 eggs of choice (mine over easy) with toast.

Service was very slow.  The waitress was not even coming to our table to fill up our water and coffee.  Jordan was getting very “hangry” (anger caused by hunger).

Hangry face

She finally came over to refill our drinks and apologized to us and explained that they were down one server.  Soon enough our food was ready and it was time to chow down!

West 14th Special

You would think after St. Patrick’s Day I would be sick of corned beef, but this dish was a perfect way to end the holiday weekend!  Although the service was slow, I will give them the benefit of the doubt.  I definitely recommend Grumpy’s Cafe.  The food and atmosphere are great!  I would also like to point out that they have WiFi- So it’s a perfect place if you want to grab a bite to eat and get some work done! Or I noticed a couple playing checkers on their ipad while they were waiting for their food!

The South Side- Sunday Brunch

After OU St. Pat’s in the Flats and a win from the Ohio Bobcat Basketball team, a good brunch was in store for Sunday.  The day could not have been more perfect.  Sunny blue skies and 65 degrees in Cleveland, in the beginning of March!  And of course spending the day with my guy always makes for the perfect day.

Jordan and I have been wanting to try The South Side‘s brunch, but for the past couple months have resorted to our usual spots, either Deagan’s Kitchen and Bar in Lakewood, or The Market, in Rocky River.  On Sunday, we finally made it over to Tremont to try the delicious Sunday brunch everyone is raving about!

The place was packed!! There was even a wait for a table!!  There were a lot of large parties there.  Luckily we snatched two seats at the bar.  I started out with a bellini and Jordan had a mimosa.  Everything on the menu sounded amazing.  Jordan of course was set on his usual, steak and eggs, but I was still clueless when it came time to order.  I asked the bartender what the most popular dish was and she said everything is amazing, but she personally liked the “Knife and Fork Breakfast Burrito” and the “Enchiladas and Eggs.”  I decided to go with enchiladas and eggs!

Enchiladas and Eggs

The chicken was prefect.  It was not over cooked…slightly spicy, but the perfect amount that added a burst of flavor.  The eggs were cooked over easy, adding an extra creaminess to the cheese.  There is a bottle of Sriracha hot sauce at every table, in case you want that extra spice.  I added a little, which went a long way… my mouth was on fire!!  I was very pleased with my meal.  This is definitely the place to be on Sunday morning/afternoon!  Check out the rest of the menu! If you have been, let me know what you ate and what you thought!
