The Taste of Tremont 2012

This is a long over due post!! But I wanted to share my Taste of Tremont experience with all of you!

Tremont is one of the oldest areas of Cleveland.  During the 1850s, Cleveland University occupied the area before the neighborhood of Tremont came to be.  Now the area is filled with art galleries, shops, and restaurants.  It is also home to “The Christmas Story House” from the famous 1983 holiday film.  Another point of interest is Iron Chef winner, Michael Symon’s restaurant, Lolita.

Restaurant’s that I have tried in the Tremont area that are posted on my blog include: The South Side, Tremont Tap House (for dinner and brunch), and Grumpy’s Café.  Other restaurants I have tried previously, before starting my blog include: Fat Cat’s and Ty Fun Thai Bistro.  Check out the list of restaurants in the area at

Jordan and I arrived noon sharp, as soon as the Taste of Tremont began.  We took a walk all the way down Professor street before deciding which restaurant stands we wanted to try.

On our way down the street Jordan spotted a homemade blueberry lemonade from The Treehouse Café.  There was a lot of sugar, but it was quite tasty!

Our first food stop was the Farenheit food truck to get a smoked pulled pork taco.  I do not have a picture of this because I was very intrigued by the dark clouds in the sky.

Rain rain go away…

Jordan and ran to get under cover just before our food became soaked.  A lady at a consignment shop was very generous, allowing us to stand on her porch for about 15 minutes until the rain had stopped.

Once the rain had passed we ran over to something that caught our eye almost immediately as we stepped foot onto Professor St.- The grilled corn!

Grilled Corn!

This was another thing that caught our eye…. a 2 pound hot dog.  We did NOT order this but Jordan took a picture.  I thought foot long hot dogs were a little much… Not quite sure what to think of this….

Next we went over to Lolita to check out what Michael Symon had in store for The Taste of Tremont.  I must say- I was NOT impressed.  He only had food option of mac and cheese and the other option was a mint lemonade.  It was about 95 degrees out with almost 100% humidity- so mac and cheese was just not appealing at the time.  So I opted for the mint lemonade.  It was very refreshing!

Mint Lemonade- Lolita

Barrio’s stand was our next stop where I got the black bean taco with a mango slaw in an avocado cream sauce. YUM!!

And last but not least, dessert from A Cookie and a Cupcake!  Carrot Cake Cupcake and Double Chocolate Cupcake.

A Cookie and a Cupcake

We also picked up a few goodies to take home! Blaze salsa (the guy who owns the company went to OU, so Jordan and I got a discount!), Kettle corn, and fresh popping corn (named “magic mushroom.”- yes, strange name, I know. haha)

The Taste of Tremont was an awesome experience!  Already looking forward to next year! The date is already set for July 21, 2013!! Check it our HERE!

Also, I would like to announce my first giveaway on my blog tomorrow from SlimKicker app!!! Make sure you tune into tomorrow’s post so that you can participate!

Blue Point Grille

Last week, Thursday, I went to the new Horse Shoe Casino along with my brother Pat, his to friends, Jordan, and my friend Emily.   Needless to say, I will never do slots ever again, although a man next to me won $2,000.   The big game of the night for all of us was blackjack.  At first we were watching my brother’s friend Zach play.  When a seat opened up at the same table Jordan sat down to play.  Both Zach and Jordan had good luck-  Jordan won a pretty good sum of money!!  I eventually got on the table later in the night and won some of my money back after losing everything on the slot machine!!

Pat and I outside the poker room!

So since Jordan did so well in blackjack, he decided to treat himself, as well as me, to a nice dinner at one of our favorites, Blue Point Grille.  We hadn’t been since Valentine’s Day weekend.  When we were there for Valentine’s Day we noticed that a couple next to us had ordered a “seafood tower”.  We haven’t stopped talking about it since!!

This past Saturday we finally went for the Chilled Seafood Tower.  There are two sizes to choose from.  We chose the larger size to have as our main entree.  We also ordered 2 mixed green salads to start.  Here is the Chilled Seafood Tower experience below:

Fork with Lemon

Clarified Butter with Lobster Stock

Toast Points and dipping sauces

One Happy Boy!

What is on the the seafood tower:  2 whole Maine lobsters, dozen oysters, King Crab legs, Jonah crab claws, shrimp, smoked mussels, lobster and shrimp salad with caper berries.

Yes, there were leftover’s.  They package all leftover’s on ice.  The waiter said it will be good for up to 2 days.  So Jordan enjoyed a nice lunch of crab legs, shrimp, and mussels for lunch today 🙂

It will probably be a while until we come back again, but this was definitely worth the splurge, especially if you’re paying with winnings from gabling!!

Happy Birthday Pat!

Today my brother Patrick turns 21- which means that since he is an Ohio University Bobcat (my alma mater!) his birthday was celebrated last night a midnight, filled with many shots (hopefully not too many!!).

In about a week he is headed for Kiawah Island for an internship with the PGA for the 2012 PGA Championships, taking place on Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course.   Patrick is a Sports Management major at OU.  Aside from all of the partying that comes with the life of an OU student, Patrick is an extremely intelligent, hardworking, and determined.  It’s no wonder he snatched an internship with the PGA at one of the most important golf tournaments known to man.

This specific PGA internship is also very meaningful to us as a family.  We vacation to Kiawah Island, SC often.  Our last trip was August 2010 before Kevin left for Azerbaijan.

Needless to say this is the first summer that Pat won’t be at home!  No more fighting with someone to help clean up! Haha.

Here are some pictures and memories leading Pat up to his 21st birthday and first beer! (yea right!)

Remember your first bar experience at OU before you were ever a student?

Pat and Jordan

I think you were passed out 20 minutes after this after trying to challenge Jordan to beer pong! Haha

Remember when you me and Kev went to dinner when were in Boston and Kevin and I were both 21 and older and had a beer…

But you couldn’t.  You had a sprite!

Now you can have a beer- Thumbs up!

Remember your fist kiss???

Haha had to put this one in there!!

Can’t wait to come down to OU in the fall for the Last homecoming with a member of the family as a student!

OU Visit- Fall 2009

Ohio University Homecoming 2011

Before you know it you will be picking up the $400 tab.

$$$$ dinner in Boston’s North End

Love you pat! Hope your 21st birthday is all you hoped it to be and more!

Trying out a new barbacoa taco recipe for when Pat comes home after finals! Look for the recipe later this week!

Chinato & Mom’s Graduation

Friday night my mom walked at her graduation ceremony for her MBA that she finished up in December at Ursuline College! So proud of her! I could not imagine working a 60 hour week, on top of going to class and completing assignments, while worrying about a son that is thousands of miles away.  She is super mom!

Dad, Mom, & Me

After dinner we drove into downtown to meet Jordan for dinner at Chinato, located on East 4th, my favorite street downtown!  It is filled with many fabulous restaurants, lights hanging, and packed with people on the weekends.  I have been to Chinato once before for Jordan’s birthday back in November.

Chinato is a Zack Bruell restaurant.  Maybe this doesn’t mean anything to you, but Zack Bruell has a few other restaurants in Cleveland as well as  the only 5-star restaurant- Table 45, located in the Intercontinental Hotel, which is connected to the Cleveland Clinic.

Chinato is an Italian restaurant decorated with a wall mural of Florence where you are able to point out the Duomo and Ponte Vecchio.

The first time I dined there I ordered a house salad special and the small plate of the gnocchi with tomato basil, toasted garlic, butter, and parmesan.  It was absolutely delicious.  The gnocchi melted in my mouth.  The small plate was perfect size for me!

I ordered a small plate of pasta again, this time.  Friday I ordered the Ravioli with pork, veal, zucchini and shitake mushrooms, with melted butter and parmesan.  Another delicious menu item!

My dad said that my pasta looked like enough to feed a mouse, but I was content.  Mom and I had split a salad prior to our entrees as well- AND I wanted to save room for dessert.

For dessert, the 4 of us shared the Tiramisu and Chocolate Hazelnut Mouse cake.

The desserts were good, especially the Chocolate cake, but the Tiramisu was a bit of a disappointment.  There was a flavor to it, almost like allspice and pecans, that threw me off.  I love the espresso taste of typical Tiramisu, and this one did not taste like it at all.

Once again, Chinato has proven it is a wonderful place to dine and celebrate at!  Check out the rest of the menu HERE.

The rest of the weekend consisted of a Tribe game win and Jordan cooking for me!

Jordan cooked me dinner 🙂

Molly Jean’s Sweet Cinnamon French Toast

Every now and then I crave something sweet for Sunday brunch.  A couple of weekends ago I had some of the best French toast at Deagan’s with blackberry syrup.  This Sunday I decided to make my own French toast with some Challah that was bought earlier in the week.

Molly Jean’s Sweet Cinnamon French Toast

Ingredients (1 serving)

  • 2 Thick slices of challah bread
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  1. In a shallow dish mix egg, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon.
  2. Heat skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Dip each slice, one at a time, into the egg mixture allowing the bread to absorb the mixture on each side.
  4. Place slices in skillet and cook until browned on each side (until egg is cooked).
  5. Top with your favorite toppings.
I topped mine with blueberries, strawberries, powder sugar and syrup!  Absolutely delish! Enjoy!
